DynCorp Moves to AllianceTexas

Hillwood has leased 100,000 sq. ft. of a 120,000-sq.-ft. build-to-suit office building at AllianceTexas to Irving-based DynCorp International. The firm will consolidate its offices in Fort Worth into the new facility, which will be located between IH-35W and Fort Worth Alliance Airport on the southeast corner of Heritage Parkway and Legacy Crossing.

The AllianceTexas office will accommodate between 250 and 300 workers, primarily from DynCorp International's Field Technical Services business unit. The company plans to occupy the new building in April 2006.

"Aviation maintenance is one of our core businesses," said DynCorp International CEO Stephen J. Cannon. "In fact, we began as an aviation company and have been a major provider of aviation services for nearly 60 years.

"By locating at AllianceTexas, we can take advantage of the extraordinary facilities there. In the past, we have had to lease hangar space in order to perform depot maintenance work." He added that one of the firm's long-range goals is to build a hangar facility at Alliance that would allow work to be brought back in-house.

"We are also a company that manages complex operations around the world," he added. "So locating at an intermodal hub like Alliance creates opportunities for greater efficiency."

With 211,296 sq. ft. of office space leased through the first eight months of 2005, Hillwood already has exceeded its previous high for office leasing activity in a year. That figure, in 2000, was a total of 200,964 sq. ft. The 100,000-sq.-ft. lease with DynCorp International is the largest office lease completed by Hillwood at AllianceTexas since 2001, when the company finalized a 130,000-sq.-ft. build-to-suit for DaimlerChrysler at Circle T Ranch.

Slack Installs "Safe Route"

Slack & Co. Contracting Inc. and TxDOT have partnered to help provide children in the La Porte and Shore Acres communities with a safer school route. Houston-based Slack & Co. installed 2.1 mi. of 8-ft. wide sidewalks for the Safe Route to School Program. The new sidewalks serve four schools in the La Porte and Shore Acres areas. This is the largest single "Safe Routes" project awarded in the state and only the second time TxDOT has cooperated with local cities on a project of this kind.

Slack & Co. received accolades from TxDOT and appreciation from the cities involved for the quality of its work, finishing under budget and completing the project on time. "The community was very supportive of the project, and hopefully the sidewalks will save lives," said Steven Barr, director of Parks & Recreation for the city of La Porte.
