TexasThe University of Texas Board of Regents has approved plans for the Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston. The project entails building a 13-story building containing 250 family-centered patient rooms with at least 246 beds, a 54-bed intensive care unit and 20 surgical suites. The old six-story Jennie Sealy Hospital will be torn down. The estimated construction cost is $438 million. TexasThe Texas Dept. of Transportation is planning to make over the Tower 55 train intersection in Fort Worth. The Tower 55 intersection, where two east-west rail lines and two north-south train lines cross, is one of the most congested rail intersections in the country. The project entails overhauling several pedestrian crossings in the Rock Island/Samuels Ave. area, and building a third north-south rail line so that fewer trains will have to park at rail crossings. Construction is expected to start in April 2012 and be completed by February 2014. The estimated construction cost is $104 million. It is a public-private partnership, financed with $34 million in federal funds, $65.3 million from BNSF and Union Pacific Railroad combined, $2.5 million from the North Central Texas Council of Governments and $1 million each from the City of Fort Worth and the Texas Dept. of Transportation.
