UHS anticipated Bartlett Cocke of San Antonio to start construction by year-end on a new clinical services building and an addition and renovation to the crisis care center at UHS’s University Health Center – Downtown. The $121-million project is scheduled for completion in 2014.
JE Dunn is wrapping up construction on the $27-million, 60,000-sq-ft Texas Center for Infection Disease in San Antonio. The 75-bed hospital will provide care to patients with tuberculosis and Hansen’s disease. The project included 6,000 sq ft of renovations and the build-out of a laboratory.
At Lackland Air Force Base, JE Dunn plans to start construction this fall on a $24-million dental clinic replacement. Completion of the design-build project is scheduled for June 2012.
Clark/Hunt, a joint venture between Clark Construction Group of Bethesda, Md., and Hunt Construction Group of Dallas, continues work at Fort Sam Houston on the $557-million, design-build San Antonio Military Medical Center – North project. It includes construction of a nearly 700,000-sq-ft addition, renovation of 280,000 sq ft of existing medical space and construction a new central energy plant and 5,000-space parking structure.
Also at Fort Sam Houston, SpawGlass is wrapping up a $30-million design-build contract for an 80,000-sq-ft, two-story, tilt-up concrete Medical Education Training Campus Dining Hall, with space to feed up to 4,800 people in a 90-minute period.
Joeris General Contractors of San Antonio received a notice to proceed in April for a $15-million, 75,327-sq-ft multifunction office building at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Gilbane Building Co. of Houston is working on a $23-million science facility renovation at the university.
Bartlett Cocke is constructing a $40-million multipurpose building for Texas A&M University-San Antonio. When complete in July 2011, it will be the first building on the new campus.
At Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Bartlett Cocke is completing a historic renovation of the Main Building, built in 1904, which had burned in a 2008 fire. The $17.6-million project is scheduled for completion this summer.
The North East Independent School District in San Antonio will accept bids this fall on the new Vineyard Ranch and Knights Cross elementary schools, both estimated in the $27 million range.
Bartlett Cocke is wrapping up construction on an $89.5-million, 454,000-sq-ft high school for the Northside ISD in San Antonio. The school district sought bids this spring on a $20-million elementary school and a $7-million addition to a separate school. Several school districts have bond referendums planned for the fall.
Austin area projects Public work also is helping Austin.
White Construction Co. of Austin received a $102-million contract from the General Services Administration to build a 237,000-sq-ft U.S. Courthouse in the city. The project is funded with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act dollars.
SpawGlass of Austin continues work on the Austin Community College’s new $70-million, 598,000-sq-ft Round Rock campus. The first phase consists of five buildings and is scheduled for completion in August.
Bartlett Cocke is working on a $29.8-million, 136,173-sq-ft renovation at Round Rock High School and a $33-million, 28,000-sq-ft renovation at Westwood High School, both for the Round Rock Independent School District in the growing suburb just north of Austin.
Austin Commercial continues working on the $180-million, 35-story Block 21/The W Hotel project across from the city’s town hall. The hotel, part of a mixed-use development seeking LEED certification, is slated to open on schedule at the end of this year. Also, downtown, two high-profile, high-rise condo projects recently finished, The 56-story Austonian, Austin’s tallest residential tower designed by Houston-based Ziegler Cooper Architects and built by Balfour Beatty Construction.
Looking ahead Schlitterbahn Waterparks announced plans for the $360-million Schlitterbahn Boutique Hotel and Conference Center located in Cedar Park, north of Austin. The first $75-million phase is scheduled to open in summer 2012.
Texas State University-San Marcos anticipates Flintco Co. of Austin will start construction this summer on a $47-million undergraduate academic center, and SpawGlass will begin work this fall on a $51-million North Campus Housing project, a 612-bed, 189,450-sq-ft residence hall.
The University of Texas at San Antonio plans to award a contract this fall for a $30-million parking garage.
JE Dunn expects to begin construction in the fall on the $11-million, 31,000-sq-ft, 420-seat proscenium theater for the Zachary Scott Theatre Center in Austin.
