Houston Highway Bridges W.W. Webber is constructing a frontage road along IH-10 from Washington Avenue to Taylor. The $48.6-million, stimulus-funded project includes several bridges in close proximity to commercial projects.
Williams Bros. Construction Co. is about half complete on a $29.6- million, stimulus-funded 1.6-mi ramp construction project on Beltway 8 at U.S. 59 in Harris County.
Oklahoma Bridge Projects Several bridge projects are under way in Oklahoma, which is in the midst of an eight-year, $20-million annual bridge replacement and rehabilitation program.
The $67-million contract the Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation awarded to a joint venture between Manhattan Road & Bridge Co. of Tulsa and Sherwood Construction Co. of Catoosa, Okla., to repair the Interstate 244 Inner Dispersal Loop in Tulsa represents the largest single contract in ODOT history. The state received stimulus funds for the project.
The project includes resurfacing and rehabilitating of 44 bridges and began in June 2009. Work is 60% complete and expected to finish in early 2011.
Manhattan Road & Bridge, in a joint venture with Allen Contracting of Oklahoma City and Sherwood Construction, is working on two ODOT contracts related to the expansion of the Interstate 40 Crosstown Expressway in Oklahoma City. The contracts together total about $85 million and include construction of nine bridges.
ODOT also is replacing the state’s oldest recorded bridge, on SH-9A over Salt Creek in Seminole County, which was originally a railroad bridge when it was built in 1896. A new alignment of SH-9A will allow the existing bridge to remain in place. The Cummins Construction Co. Inc. of Enid, Okla., is working on the $8-million project.
