Texas Market Outlook 2006

A groundbreaking celebration in mid-November initiated construction of the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts. Among the project’s key players are McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. of Dallas and Linbeck Group LLP of Houston, architects Foster and Partners of London, The Office for Metropolitan Architecture of New York and Corgan Associates of Dallas. The commercial construction market enjoyed a strong year in Texas in 2005. Several high-profile, high-dollar groundbreakings occurred during the year, including the start of the $275 million Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, the $250 million Texas Instruments’ fabrication plant in Richardson and the $200 million Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas in Austin. Several corporations announced expansions in the Lone Star State, including Fluor Corp.’s relocation of its headquarters to the Metroplex and Advanced Micro Devices $200 million corporate campus in Austin. Despite lingering concerns over labor and materials, Texas is leading the nation in highway construction, second in K-12 and third in health care, and indicators point to another year of growth for the state in 2006.
