PROJECT COST: $80,000,000

Grand Prairie Public Safety Building and Activity Center

The Grand Prairie Public Safety Headquarters building is replacing the current facility and is scheduled to open in April 2010. The 135,000-sq-ft building houses various police-related departments and is twice the size of the existing facility. It includes conference rooms, a new crime lab, expanded interview rooms, additional parking and the latest technology.

The Active Adult Center, also scheduled to open April 2010, offers recreational amenities for adults. The 59,000-sq-ft facility features an indoor aquatics center. The center also includes a small gym for basketball and volleyball, a fitness area, aerobics room, two classrooms, a display and sales room and a game room with billiards, darts, a big-screen television and access to a coffee bar. A walking area on the second floor features glass tunnels and views of the lake. The building also includes a 100-seat theater, banquet room with sliding walls, a dining room and full service commercial kitchen. An outdoor covered patio area includes a grill, seating area and fireplace.
