McCarthy Completes Multi-Use Facility

Dallas-based McCarthy announced the completion of a $13.2 million, 400,000 sq.-ft., multi-use design/build facility at Baylor University, Waco. The new residence for the university's Information Technology Services group also provides structured parking for 1,195 cars. In addition, the facility will house Starbucks and Chili's, Too. This multi-use structure is located at University Parks Drive and Dutton Avenue on the Baylor campus.

The completion of an accelerated schedule allowed the new ITS space to become operational prior to the start of the university's Fall semester.

"We also delivered the project under budget, providing substantial cost savings to the university," said McCarthy Project Director Gary Akin.

Cadence McShane Completes Two New Elementary

Cadence McShane Corporation, Dallas, recently completed the construction of two 72,000 sq.-ft. elementary schools within the Frisco Independent School District. Project architect Corgan Associates, Inc., Dallas, designed both The Jessie Marie Riddle Elementary School located in Plano and the Mary Boals Elementary School in Frisco with three classroom pod areas linked to a central corridor that leads to a cafetorium; kitchen; gymnasium; library; music room and administrative offices.

Cadence McShane also used geothermal technology to provide maximum efficiency and help lower up front operating costs over conventional HVAC systems. An underground well system utilizes geothermal energy to heat and cool the facilities.

The Cadence McShane Frisco ISD project team consisted of Project Manager Dan Banse, Assistant Project Manager Jason White, Superintendents Wayde Jacobs and Gary Pearson, and Assistant Superintendents Chris Nichols and Chris Sacco.

Cadence McShane has performed construction in over eighty Texas schools including additions and renovations in over fifty locations.

Master plan to complete Arts District

The Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Foundation announced a master plan, the outline for placing the Center's future venues within the Dallas Arts District. The master plan is the result of an historic and rare collaboration between two of the world's most renowned architectural firms: Foster and Partners of London and the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) of Rotterdam and New York.

Work on the master plan was led by Foster and Partners' Spencer de Grey and OMA's Joshua Ramus.

"The core desire of the master plan is to create an inclusive, vibrant destination out of a district that is currently home to many distinguished institutions but which lacks cohesion," said Joshua Ramus, Partner, Office for Metropolitan Architecture and Principal in Charge for the Center's multiform theater. "By placing Annette Strauss Artist Square at the heart of the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts - thus fusing high culture with popular culture - this master plan will encourage universal access to the Dallas Arts District and transform it into a lively, populist city quarter."
