Sensor for High-Speed Pavement Profiling

LMI Technologies, Inc. has introduced a new Selcom High Speed RoLine 1130 Sensor for high-speed pavement profiling. The new Selcom RoLine 1130 Sensor features laser line sensing for accurate profiling of all pavement geometries on high-speed profilers at any vehicle speed. The laser line measuring principle of RoLine sensors was developed to improve the accuracy of pavement profiling for coarse textured surfaces, particularly longitudinal tined and diamond ground surfaces.

Based on the same sensor technologies used in the earlier RoLine 1100 sensors, the RoLine 1130 provides increased frame rates and higher data density to meet the needs of high-speed profilers.

To provide flexibility for the profiler manufacturer, the RoLine 1130 operates with two data output modes, either full profile data or the optional output using the internal bridging algorithm that reduces the full profile to a single-point output representing the actual surface location.

New Class of Milling Machines

Volvo Construction Equipment has developed a new class of milling machines for the road development industry with the introduction of the Volvo MT2000 and Volvo MW500. With the addition of these two milling machines to its road machinery product line, Volvo now offers equipment for every phase of roadway work. Production of the Volvo MT2000 and Volvo MW500 began at the end of 2008 and both models should be available to the North American market in the second quarter of this year.

The new Volvo MT2000 is a four-track, front-load, half-lane milling machine powered by a 610-horsepower Tier 3 Cummins engine. The Volvo MT2000 offers three distinct engine and drum-cutting speeds selectable from the operator’s panel – an industry first. The new Volvo MW500 is a four-wheel, rear-loading, utility-class milling machine that offers a standard cutting width of 19.69 in. (500 mm).

Specialty Material Handler

LBX recently unveiled its new Link-Belt 240 X2 Material Handler for specialty applications such as: scrap/material-handling, demolition, waste transfer and site prep. With the option of linkage- or gooseneck-style attachments, the machine can be equipped with a variety of tools like dangling magnets and orange-peel grapples for scrap yards, trash grapples for construction and demolition debris, buckets for handling material fines, or shears and processors to handle tougher tasks.

Operators can transfer materials into rail cars with a cab that rises hydraulically to a full height of 18-ft 2-in. while still allowing for easy transport from job to job with a weight of 70,000 lb.
