The Chihuahuita Connection began operating in June. In conjunction with a rail-highway grade separation project in Juarez, programmed by Mexico’s Transport and Communications Ministry, the connection is expected to reduce freight congestion at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The BNSF Chihuahuita Connection was a joint effort of the Texas Dept. of Transportation, the city of El Paso and BNSF. The project used ARRA funds and private contributions.
