The new Cedar Ridge High School, the fifth within its school district, will serve a 3,000-student core capacity accommodating ninth through 12th grades. The new design is approximately 375,000 sq ft.
Architect-facilitated project programming and workshops among administrators, teachers, community members, students and parents resulted in the decision to pursue an academy-based design. The school will include separate academies with focuses on arts and humanities; the Texas Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics Initiative (or T-STEM); hospitality; construction technology; and a ninth-grade academy. Each academy will serve approximately 600 students.
It will also include small distributed media centers specific to each academy, along with individual teacher planning and resource areas. Each academy will plug into a shared spine of spaces such as a black-box theater, cafeteria, performing-arts area, main-media center, athletics and consolidated administration located at the north and south entries of the facility.
