A difficult site brought one of the biggest challenges to the New Fort Bend High School project team. The site is located near Waters Lake, which required the team to construct a temporary weir to provide a low water crossing for construction traffic to traverse the drainage channel adjacent to Oyster Creek. Additionally, the existing drainage channel was being improved adjacent to the site by the Levee Improvement District. The design team quickly put together a rough grading package so fill material from the excavation work could be used in the school construction project.

To accommodate an aggressive schedule, the design team decided to fast-track the project and bid out the work in five separate packages. This allowed for construction of the two-story, 365,000-sq-ft school to remain on track to reach completion ahead of the schedule completion date.
